External Storage and File Sharing

It can be very useful to use external storage and file-sharing services when working on a WordPress website. There are multiple options for someone looking to see what’s compatible with their site.

1- Amazon S3

Amazon S3 is a simple storage service that is known for reliability. It is a file storing facility that hold gigabytes up to petabytes. Amazon S3 is a per month and per transfer payment model, but storage is said to be cheap and can handle large media.

2 – Google Cloud Storage

Google Cloud Storage is an equivalent of Amazon S3, but for Google. The network for GCS is built from the same network as Gmail and YouTube, making it fit for holding large amounts of media. GCS is said to be user-friendly, and can load WordPress media automatically once configured. Like Amazon S3, GCS is a pay per month and transfer model.

3 – Cloudflare R2

Cloudflare R2 is a storage service that does not cost for downloads. WordPress sites with high traffic rates can use Cloudflare R2 freely with unlimited data. R2 can work with S3 as they use an S3-compatible API, but Cloudflare R2 is tightly integrated with 330+ edge locations. There is a monthly cost for storage but zero egress fees are present.
