My Website Security and Users

When creating a website, it is important to keep it secure. With malware and malicious threats being able to bypass security restrictions, taking the extra step is vital to keeping a website alive. There are multiple ways that creators can ensure the safety of their users and contributors when navigating the web.

1 – SSL Certificate

Installing an SSL Certificate takes your website from having a URL that starts with “http://” to “https://” which ensures security for a website. Websites that involve shopping and personal information are important for user security, building trust with your users. When an SSL certificate is present, it establishes encryption and can also add a lock icon to your website and users can validate the certificate with information provided.

2 – Domain Email Accounts

Using an email address can allow users to learn more about the brand and business. The domain being your own as well can drive more customers towards you, as it shows how serious the service is. Maintaining a professional view while upping your credibility can establish trust with website viewers. Other ways that a personalized email address with your domain name can help perception is by being memorable, not being sent to the spam folder, consistency, and security.

3 – Assigning Roles

Having roles assigned for your website can improve the overall sustainability of the service. Instead of 1 person running everything, having editors or administrator to manage or edit the blog can help content-related functions. Including extra authors or contributors can help create better or more refined content, especially with reviews coming from contributors and subscribers. This practice improves security as more users are capable of catching issues, responding to issues, or making voices heard.

I envision myself using contributors and subscribers more than authors or admins. With the exception of an instructor or peer-reviewing from another student, I don’t see myself using editors or admins that often. However, receiving feedback from users is an effective way to imrpove website sustainability and trust.
