In recent years, one of the more controversial developments in video production was the advancement of Artificial Intelligence. AI has become a topic for many when it comes to the morality of the technology, along with how fast it has become a useful tool for many. One of the biggest advancements in AI history was the invention of Sora AI. Sora was created by OpenAI, the same creators as ChatGPT, and could make extremely accurate depictions of celebrities, influencers, or anything you could think of.

The reasons that OpenAI gave for the shutdown of Sora was because of unsustainable costs, less engagement from users, and wanting to shift attention onto other tools. Many people or companies that were against the usage of the app would say they disliked the illegal use of image and likeness, the unethical environmental costs, and work being taken from actual artists. Once these concerns arose from the company’s standpoint, they will be shutting down their video generation app on April 26, 2026, with the API being discontinued in September 2026.
